Where To Find The Best Creative Writing Course

Just about every college student would benefit from a creative writing course. These classes are usually quite popular so they can be a challenge to get a chance to take a creative writing course if you are a freshman or a sophomore. It is a good idea to talk directly with a professor who teaches this type of course if you want to take the class early in your college career.

I was fortunate to have taken a class with a professor who specialized in poetry. She is an award-winning poet and her creative writing course was sought-after by a lot of students. It was nearly impossible to get a seat in her class. It was easy to get into her regular literature classes, though.

This was the best way for me to get my foot in the door for the dream creative writing course that I wanted to take. When you are 19 years old, a semester can seem like an eternity. There was no way that I could wait a whole year or even two to get into that poetry class. I decided to take another course taught by the same professor and plead my case.

I actually did not fair very well in her regular literature class. First of all, the class was scheduled first thing in the morning. Since I worked as a bartender I was dead tired during the early morning class. There were other things that factored into the equation such as I hate Beowulf and all of the literature from that period. Yuk.

There was no way that I was going to impress this professor enough to get into her creative writing course but I continued to take the dull class anyway just because I really liked the professor. She is a great teacher but he subject was just so painfully awful for my tastes that I could barely stand to listen to the verse. Fortunately, my distaste for the subject won me a spot in her creative writing course.

I decided to write a passionate piece of how much I hate, loathe and despise Beowulf. I worked hard on the piece and I put forth every bit of my sincere energy against the topic. She liked the writing so much that she joked that we should protest taking the class in front of the Dean of the college.

When I explained that I only took the horrible class in order to have a chance to get into the creative writing course, the professor was so pleased that she signed me into the very next semester. I wound up changing my major from Psychology to English.
