How To Find The Best Journal Writing

Writing is a career that requires a lot of practice. Reading and writing is a daily routine for those work in the field. Maintaining a journal is a good practice for any writer. However, many people have taken up journal writing as well. There are a few reasons that journal writing has entered the mainstream.

Researchers have attributed some major benefits to journal writing. The activity is considered to be a stress reliever. Just fifteen minutes of composition each day is all that it takes to reap the benefits. The practice works in a variety of ways.

Even if the individual throws the composition away after finishing the activity will still be very effective. The process of journal writing gives the individual quiet time and a little solace. The 15 minutes for quiet reflection is helpful in reducing stress.

Many might wonder why thinking isn’t considered to be as relieving as journal writing. Why not just sit quietly for fifteen minutes and reflect? While this may seem to be a great approach, actual practice of journal writing uses different parts of the brain than thinking does. Of course, the action requires certain areas of the brain to get to work.

The journal writing process stimulates the mind in unique ways. When we think, we process the thoughts differently than when we write them down. There is also a psychological purging that seems to occur as well. When journal writing involves emotion, especially anger, it works as a catharsis.

Feeling better is not the only benefit of daily journal writing. Anyone who enjoys creative writing benefits from the practice as well. Many writers recognize the difference between composing by hand and typing. Some writers assert that journal writing sparks creativity because of the nature of the process.

Typing on the computer for some writers is too clinical. We enjoy typing away for most of our compositions. However, creative endeavors usually began as a journal writing activity. The free flow of thoughts combined with the intricate fine motor skills required to draw out the words helps some writers overcome writer’s block and it helps to stimulate the creative process.

The exercise of journal writing is gaining popularity. Some people use the practice to spark creativity. Others use it as a form of therapeutic stress relief. There are still the small number of individuals who use journal writing as a type of diary as well.
