Tips For Chosing The Perfect Paper Shredders
One of the most important things anyone can have in their home office is one or two paper shredders. When you throw away important documents, you run the risk of someone going through your trash and picking them out. If someone wants to commit identity theft, all they need is your name, birthday, and social security number. They may then take out loans, or more likely credit cards in your name. You may be able to get things straightened out if this were to happen to you, but chances are good that your credit will be ruined, and even though you were the victim, you may end up owing the money anyway.
Paper shredders were invented to prevent such things. There are many different types from which to choose, and you don’t need to get a large one if you don’t want to. When you are throwing away any bills or important papers, you should always put them through paper shredders. When you get credit card offers in the mail, you should make sure you shred these as well. If you leave these whole, someone can easily pick them out of your trash can apply for that credit card in your name.
Some paper shredders work very simply. They cut your documents into a small slivers so that they may not be taped back together. There are other paper shredders that do even more damage to a document, so that even the most dedicated thief cannot piece things back together. If you have a shredder that does not make things as small as you wish it would, all you have to do is feed the strips back through for further mutilation. You may then want to mix these tiny pieces in with the rest of your wet garbage to be totally secure about their destruction.
There are paper shredders on the market can do even more than shred paper documents. There are new ones that have blades strong enough to handle CDs and credit cards. Sometimes people fail to put their important documents through a paper shredder because of tougher materials. If you have one of these new paper shredders this is not something you will have to worry about. If you have import information on your CDs, these can be shredded as well. Many computers today save information on CDs for you, and it is important that you have a way to completely and thoroughly destroy them when you’re done with them.
