Postit Notes - Usage and Overview

Where would we be without inventions and technological advancements? Would we still be stuck in the dark ages? Would we be monkeys with less hair using sticks for everything? As humorous as that picture is, I think I can say confidently that we are all glad we have evolved into the technologically dependent creatures we are. I may not have upgraded to the electric can opener or the LCD or high definition television yet, but I am as reliant upon technology as the next guy.

Some things I can’t imagine my life without – which also just happen to be an homage to my early eighties generation - postit notes. These little sticky notes are everywhere. I have not seen an office or desk without them. Little postit notes clinging to the computer screens and refrigerators of America make me happy. The day-glow yellow and pinks are the best touch by far.

All over my house little postit notes act as traffic controllers. They alert me to what needs attention first and which carton of milk is past due. Postit notes remind me when to pick up my prescriptions or when I have put off getting an oil change. Basically, postits are the cheapest form of secretarial assistance in existence.

As a part of my appreciation for the postit note, I would like to remind you of some of the more famous mentions postit notes have received recently. First and possibly most well-known – the Sex and the City nod. Carrie gets dumped by a man who leaves her the sad news on a tiny postit stuck to her laptop. She wakes up to find him gone and a postit in his place. Sad, but effective.

My favorite mention of all time – the Romy and Michelle mention. Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is one of the funniest girlie movies of all time. During what has become a cult classic, Lisa Kudrow’s character claims to have invented postit notes when trying to show up her ex-classmates. Hilarious and very well played.

When it comes down to it, the real inventor of postits should be proud of the cultural impact the little stickies have made. Although it is well known that they were invented by accident, they have become a popular little facet to our modern world. Without the benefit of splashy marketing or a catchy jingle, postits have gone a long way in the marketplace and will be around forever.
